ABK Group has run its kilns in the Sassuolo ceramic district of Emilia-Romagna since 1992, and Calacatta Gold is the collection where the mill's marble-look program shows its best resolution — a quiet white field run through with the diagonal gold and warm-grey veining that gives the Carrara family its name. This batch landed in 63" × 126" (roughly 160 × 320 cm) at 1.2cm gauge, honed face, full-bodied.

Why this format, in this gauge. 63" × 126" is the working size for large-format porcelain as architectural cladding — counters, full-height shower walls, fireplace surrounds, vanity faces, integrated furniture. At 1.2cm the panel is light enough to handle as wall material and dense enough to fabricate as a counter with a built-up edge. Through-body construction means a mitered corner shows the same Calacatta field on the edge, not a porcelain biscuit underneath.

How the veining reads. ABK's pattern repeat across the lot is long — the diagonal gold passages run corner-to-corner without obvious tiling, and the secondary cooler greys give the white ground enough movement to avoid the flat, printed read that early-generation marble-look porcelain had. Honed, the surface stays matte under daylight and reads close to a honed Calacatta marble at arm's length. Where it diverges from natural stone is durability — no etching from citrus or wine, no sealing, no patina.

Where it belongs. Kitchens and baths where the design wants the Calacatta look without the maintenance conversation. Outdoor kitchens and pool surrounds — porcelain is freeze-thaw stable and UV-locked. Commercial work where the spec demands a single material running floor-to-wall-to-counter across a large footprint without grout joints reading as a tile field.

On the floor at Royal Stone. The 63" × 126" panels are stocked now in the showroom alongside the rest of the ABK and large-format porcelain program. Designers and architects working in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades, and Malibu — walk it under our fixtures, pull a sample, and we'll quote from current inventory.
