A Field Guide

Choosing Italian marble
in Los Angeles.

A working reference for architects, interior designers and fabricators sourcing natural marble slabs in Southern California. Compiled from direct importing relationships built since Stone Supplies, Inc. dba Royal Stone was established on December 2, 1996.

Quarried in the Apuans and Verona

Our white marbles — Calacatta, Statuario, Arabescato, Bianco Carrara — come from the Apuan Alps above Tuscany. The colored stones — Breccia Pernice, Rosso Levanto, Dolce Vita — are pulled from the Verona basin. We select blocks ourselves in Italy before they are sawn and finished.

Reading a slab

Marble is a calcium stone — it patinates. Honed surfaces read soft and forgive everyday use; polished surfaces saturate the color and the veining. Leathered and bush-hammered are for terraces and bar tops. The slab itself decides which finish suits it; we'd rather show you the block than describe it.

Delivery across Southern California

Royal Stone coordinates weekly transportation to projects throughout Southern California through trusted third-party carriers.

Frequently Asked

Marble, briefly
answered.

A short reference for the questions designers, architects and homeowners ask us most often. For anything specific to a slab on the floor, please call or visit the yard.

Where can I see Italian marble slabs in Los Angeles?
At Royal Stone, 2303 South Sepulveda Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90064. Our 90,000 sq ft of warehouse, slab yard, and showroom combined holds over 120 hand-selected Italian marble slabs — Calacatta, Statuario, Viola, Breccia Capraia, Dolce Vita, Arabescato Corchia and Les Quatre Saison among them. Trade and private clients are welcomed by appointment Monday through Friday.
Is Royal Stone an authorized Antolini dealer?
Yes. Royal Stone is an Antolini dealer in Los Angeles. We carry Antolini Black Label, Exclusive Stone, and Texture collections and select material through Antolini in Verona before it crosses the Atlantic.
What is the difference between Calacatta and Carrara marble?
Both are quarried in the Apuan Alps of Tuscany. Carrara reads softer — a cooler gray-white field with feathered gray veining. Calacatta is whiter and more dramatic, with bolder, more sculptural veining in gray, gold or violet. Calacatta blocks are rarer and command a premium; Carrara remains the workhorse white.
What slab sizes and thicknesses do you stock?
Our standard marble gauge is 2cm, with select pieces in 3cm. Slab sizes vary by block but most range from approximately 70″ × 115″ to 78″ × 130″. Jumbo formats up to 76″ × 130″ are regularly in inventory. Every slab is one-of-one — what is on the floor is what is available.
Do you deliver marble slabs across Southern California?
Royal Stone coordinates weekly transportation to projects throughout Southern California through trusted third-party carriers.
Can marble be used for kitchen countertops in California?
Yes — with the right finish and an informed client. Marble is a calcium stone and will patinate; honed surfaces forgive everyday use better than polished. Sealing is straightforward and routine. For clients who prefer a stain-resistant alternative with similar visual character, we recommend our quartzite collection or Italian porcelain slabs.

Finishes

Six surfaces
for one stone.

Every slab can be fabricated in a range of finishes. We also accommodate custom finishes and dimensional cuts by special order.

Honed
A soft matte surface that reveals the stone’s natural color and depth without reflection.
Polished
A mirror-bright finish that intensifies veining and saturates pigment.
Leathered
A textured hand-feel with low sheen — tactile, contemporary, forgiving.
Bush Hammered
A rugged, rhythmic surface broken by hand for an architectural texture.
Fluted
Linear channels cut along the face — sculptural, directional, modern.
Fire Brushed
Thermal treatment that opens the grain and softens the surface.
