Caldia · Apuan Alps

The quiet Calacatta.

Quarried in the Apuan Alps above Carrara, in the Caldia basin that gives the stone its name. Selected slab-by-slab for the milky white field and the softest vein structure.

Caldia is the quiet register of the Calacatta family — a soft, milky white ground crossed by fine, feathery gray veining that drifts rather than strikes. Where a Borghini reads bold and graphic, Caldia reads calm: the vein sits back in the field and the whole slab glows a warm, even white.

At 60″ × 135″ the slab is a long landscape. 30 slabs from lot PLST1418 are on the floor at South Sepulveda right now, which means designers and homeowners can walk an actual selection across the floor — match vein, match register, lay out which slabs become the island and which become the bath surround. Honed keeps the surface matte and lets the white read soft rather than reflective.

The right marble when the project wants a true Calacatta without the drama — serene kitchens, full-height bath walls, and quiet fireplace surrounds. Pair with white oak, plaster, brushed nickel, or aged brass; the soft field carries warm and cool palettes equally well.

One Finish · Honed

Honed,
to keep the white soft.

Calacatta Caldia Soft White ships honed. The matte surface keeps the feathery gray veining quiet and lets the milky field read calm rather than reflective — polished would sharpen the contrast and push the stone toward graphic. Honed also forgives the small etching that working marble in a kitchen or bath picks up over the years.

The right surface for waterfall islands, vanity tops, full-height bath walls, and fireplace surrounds.

Milky white, matte, feathered

Honing pulls the polish off and lets the fine gray veining read like a whisper across the field. Under natural light the slab sits soft and luminous; the faint warm passages keep the white from ever reading cold at full scale.

Common Questions

Questions,answered.

What is Calacatta Caldia marble?
Calacatta Caldia is a true Calacatta quarried in the Caldia basin of the Apuan Alps above Carrara — a soft, milky white field crossed by fine, feathery gray veining. It is the quiet register of the Calacatta family, selected for calm rather than contrast.
How much Calacatta Caldia is in the yard?
30 slabs currently on the floor at Royal Stone, all 60″ × 135″ at 2cm honed from lot PLST1418. Enough to walk a full selection — match register, lay out which slab goes to the island, the bath, the fireplace, and order a matched set of slabs for a single full slab.
Is Calacatta Caldia available in polished?
By special order. Honed is what the slab ships at, calibrated to keep the veining soft and the white field calm. Polished Caldia is worth considering for accent walls; honed is the right call for working kitchens and baths.
Is this marble good for kitchen countertops?
Honed Caldia works beautifully in kitchens where a serene white field is what the room wants. The matte surface forgives everyday etching, and most designers accept the lived-in patina as part of the material.
Can Calacatta Caldia be bookmatched?
Sequential slabs from the same block can usually be pulled for bookmatched runs. With 30 slabs from lot PLST1418 in the yard we can lay out a matched pair on the floor; for larger layouts a quote-on-request will tell you whether matched sets are available at the size.
