ABK Group has run its kilns in the Sassuolo ceramic district of Emilia-Romagna since 1992, and Statuario is the white-marble look the mill builds its reputation on — the cool, almost luminous white field with directional grey veining that takes its name from the Apuan quarries above Carrara. This batch landed in 63" × 126" (roughly 160 × 320 cm) at 1.2cm gauge, honed face, full-bodied.
How it reads against Calacatta. Where Calacatta runs warm — honey-gold and amber passages threaded across the white — Statuario stays cool. The veining is grey on white, the secondary network is silvery and structural rather than painterly, and the white ground itself reads slightly brighter and cleaner. In a room with a lot of natural light it photographs as a near-pure white surface; under warm tungsten the greys hold their cool register without going blue. It is the white-marble look for designs that don't want gold in the room.
“Where Calacatta runs warm — honey-gold and amber passages threaded across the white — Statuario stays cool.”
Why this format, in this gauge. 63" × 126" is the working architectural size for large-format porcelain — kitchens, baths, fireplace surrounds, full-height shower walls, vanity faces. At 1.2cm the panel is light enough to handle as wall material and dense enough to fabricate as a counter with a built-up edge. Through-body construction means a mitered corner shows the same Statuario field on the edge, not a porcelain biscuit underneath. Honed face stays matte under daylight and reads close to a honed Statuario marble at arm's length.
Where it belongs. Kitchens and baths where the design wants the cool-white marble look without the etching, sealing, and patina conversation that comes with natural Statuario — porcelain is non-porous, citrus-proof, and dimensionally consistent panel to panel. Outdoor kitchens and pool surrounds, where the white stays UV-stable. Commercial work where a single material has to run floor-to-wall-to-counter across a large footprint without grout joints reading as a tile field.
On the floor at Royal Stone. The 63" × 126" Statuario porcelain panels are stocked now in the showroom alongside the matching ABK Calacatta Gold panels and the rest of the Italian large-format program. Walk both whites side by side in daylight, take samples, and we'll quote from current inventory.
