Each year at Royal Stone we keep running notes on what designers, architects and private clients are specifying for Los Angeles residential work. The previous twelve months at the South Sepulveda yard have had a clear shape, and there are four movements worth noting for any spec being drawn into a 2026 build.

First: translucent and backlit quartzite has gone from a single statement wall to a working material. Cristallo Traslux, Patagonia Vitrum and Cristallo Lumix are being specified for more than one room in a project now — a backlit powder vanity paired with a non-backlit kitchen island of the same stone, the same family used on a fireplace surround. What used to be a 'feature' material is becoming a whole-house system. We have a dedicated backlighting rig at the yard so the slabs can be evaluated under the actual lighting they will live under.

Second: bookmatched Calacatta is being commissioned for non-counter surfaces. Bookmatching — cutting two slabs to mirror each other along the seam — has been a kitchen and bar trick for years. For 2026 we see it migrating into shower walls, headboard panels, fireplace surrounds and entry halls. Antolini's Calacatta Borghini with the soft vein (Lot EI292) and Calacatta Monet Oro are the family's clearest bookmatch material.

Third: fluted and dimensional stone is moving past facades into case goods. Antolini's Textures+ program — fluted, Riven, Stratos, Petra, Hard Rock — is being used for interior architectural features that used to be painted drywall: entry halls, library shelving backs, kitchen hood wraps. The look brings the geology of the stone to the surface and reads as a single sculptural move rather than a tile pattern.

Fourth: the colour palette is warming. Cool greys and whites still sell well, but the warm cream and gold families — Travertino Titanium Charcoal, Calacatta Gold Borghini, Breccia Pernice, Ceppo Quattro Stagioni Libeccio — are pulling equal weight in 2026 spec packages. There is a clear move toward the colour of Italian afternoon light rather than the cool gloss of contemporary minimalism, and the floors are following the stone. The royal Stone yard is well stocked for this — most of the warm-tone lots have moved into the on-floor inventory rather than into incoming-only.
