Viola Orobico,
in Los Angeles.
Quarried in the Orobie Alps north of Bergamo, Viola Orobico (also called Orobico Rosso) is one of the most cinematic of the rare Italian marbles. Each slab reads as a single weather event in rust-red, plum, and silver-grey — no two blocks alike.

Quarried in the Orobie Alps, Lombardy. Selected by Antolini.
The drawing is the point. Viola Orobico is a brecciated and folded marble — long currents of rust and plum cut by white quartz veining, broken by darker silver-grey passages that hold like cloud across the field. Each block opens with its own composition; the slabs we stock are selected for the strength of that drawing.
Polish carries the colour. The depth of the violet pigments and the sharpness of the white veining read at their fullest under a high polish — honed finishes flatten the chroma and dull the contrast. We stock primarily polished slabs, and recommend the same for finished work.
Best deployed where the entire slab can be seen — a kitchen island, a powder room vanity, a fireplace surround, a bath wall. The stone pairs naturally with warm woods (oiled walnut, white oak), warm metals (brushed brass, satin bronze), and quieter companion stones (travertine, light limestone) that let the violet field hold the room.

A pair of installations that show how the violet field carries — paired with oiled walnut joinery and soft mosaic surrounds, the marble reads as the room’s single piece of theatre.
