Calacatta Viola is one of the most sought-after exotic marbles in Los Angeles design right now: a white Italian marble crossed with deep violet, plum, and charcoal. Two new lots have just landed at the Royal Stone yard on Sepulveda Boulevard in West LA: 48 slabs of 2cm Calacatta Viola Monet Select (lot PLST1403, about 79″ × 118″) and 32 slabs of 2cm Calacatta Viola Original Select (lot PLST1423, about 77″ × 124″), both in a honed finish. Both are Calacatta Viola, but they look very different, and the right choice depends on the room and the look you want.
Calacatta Viola Monet: the painterly one. Monet has a bright white field with long, sweeping veins of charcoal and violet that run diagonally across the slab, with fine warm-gold lines in between. The movement is flowing and directional, more like brushstrokes than a pattern. It reads as light, airy, and modern, and it bookmatches beautifully across an island or a full-height wall.
Calacatta Viola Original: the classic breccia. Original is the look most people picture when they hear Calacatta Viola: soft white and warm cream fragments held together by a dense network of deep plum and violet veins, with bold pools of color across the slab. It has more color, more drama, and more pattern per square foot. It makes a statement wherever it goes.
Color and mood. Monet keeps the white in charge, so the overall impression is bright with violet accents. That suits coastal homes in Santa Monica, Malibu, and Manhattan Beach, and clean, contemporary kitchens. Original leans warmer and richer, with cream and plum tones that pair well with walnut, brass, and plaster in traditional and Mediterranean homes in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, and the Hollywood Hills.
“Monet has a bright white field with long, sweeping veins of charcoal and violet that run diagonally across the slab, with fine warm-gold lines in between.”
Best uses. Choose Monet for kitchen islands and waterfall edges, long perimeter counters, and large feature walls where its long veins can run uninterrupted. Choose Original for powder rooms, vanities, bar tops, and fireplace surrounds where a bold, concentrated pattern becomes the focal point. Either stone works for primary baths and shower walls.
Slab size and quantity. The Monet lot runs about 79″ × 118″, with 48 slabs, enough to match an entire home in one stone. The Original lot runs longer at about 77″ × 124″, with 32 slabs, a good fit for long islands and tall walls with fewer seams.
Care. Both are natural Italian marble: softer than quartzite and sensitive to acids like lemon juice and vinegar. The honed finish on both lots gives a smooth matte surface that hides small etches better than polish. Seal on installation, wipe spills promptly, and either stone will age gracefully in a working Los Angeles kitchen.
The best way to choose is to see both side by side. Every slab in these two lots is in our 50,000 sq. ft. yard at 2303 S Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064, a short drive from Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Santa Monica, and the Westside. Homeowners, designers, and fabricators from across Southern California are welcome to walk the lots and hold their slabs before fabrication.
