Quartzite begins as sandstone and is transformed under heat and pressure into an interlocking quartz structure. It is generally harder and more scratch-resistant than marble. Performance, porosity and sealing requirements vary by the individual stone, quarry and finish, so broad guarantees should not replace evaluation of the actual slab.

Heat performance also depends on the individual material and any factory treatments. Trivets are a sensible habit on any natural surface because they reduce thermal shock and avoid exposing resins or treatments to concentrated heat.

From the material study,

The trade name 'quartzite' is sometimes used loosely for stones with different mineral compositions. That is why identification and slab-specific testing matter. Hardness and porosity are also different properties; sealing should be selected according to the specific stone, finish and application.

We can discuss the characteristics of the individual quartzite slab and help coordinate evaluation before fabrication when durability is the deciding factor.
