Antolini
Black Fill.
Travertine.

Tivoli travertine in its most dramatic classical register — the filling operation carried out in deep black resin instead of the standard cream or near-match resin. The result reads as classical Italian travertine with a contemporary graphic field: cream vein-cut lines drawn across a near-black surface. Currently on the floor at South Sepulveda.

Antolini Black Fill

Tivoli, dressed black.

Quarried in Tivoli, Italy, and processed through the Antolini Black Fill program.

Travertine forms in the hot-spring deposits around Tivoli, with voids opening up across the bedding planes as the surface settles. Standard filling repairs the voids with color-matched resin; Antolini’s Black Fill program fills them with a deep black resin instead, leaving the cream vein-cut lines as a graphic pattern traced across a near-black field.

Filled-and-honed calibrated to contemporary work. The black fill makes the slab read as architectural material — clad on a feature wall, faced on a fireplace surround, set as a countertop where the slab is meant to register as composition. The honed finish keeps the surface matte and forgiving of wear.

The right travertine when the brief is architectural and the room is contemporary. Pair with brushed brass, blackened steel, oak millwork, lime plaster, and a quieter marble or limestone elsewhere as counterpoint.

to keep the slab architectural.

Common Questions

Questions,answered.

What is Antolini Black Fill Travertine?
Antolini’s Black Fill program takes classical Tivoli vein-cut travertine and fills the natural voids with a deep black resin instead of the standard cream or color-matched resin. The result reads as cream lines drawn across a near-black surface — classical travertine adapted to a contemporary architectural register.
Where does Black Fill Travertine work best?
In the room where the slab is meant to be architectural material. A feature wall clad entirely in stone, a fireplace surround, a full-height bath wall composed of slab, a working countertop in a study or wet bar. Pair with brushed brass, blackened steel, oak millwork, lime plaster, and a quieter marble or limestone elsewhere as counterpoint.
Is Antolini Black Fill available in polished?
Yes — by special order. The slab ships at filled-and-honed. Polished pushes the cream vein-cut lines toward reflective and exaggerates the contrast between cream lines and black fill; sandblasted is available for exterior applications.
Is Black Fill a stain-resistant upgrade?
Black Fill is design-led; the resin fill itself is similar to standard travertine fill in maintenance terms. The black color hides the small darkening that fills occasionally pick up at the cut edges over years — useful where the slab is set as a long-running work surface.
How is Black Fill different from standard filled travertine?
Standard filled travertine uses color-matched resin, leaving the slab reading as classical cream Tivoli. Black Fill uses a deep black resin, which leaves the cream vein-cut lines as a graphic pattern traced across a near-black field. The stone is the same; the fill colour is the design choice.
